Frequently Asked Questions

At Sigma IT, we believe technology should help your business — not slow it down.

We provide managed IT, cloud, cybersecurity, connectivity and communications solutions for organisations throughout Auckland and across New Zealand.

Whether you need a complete outsourced IT solution, additional support for your existing IT team, stronger cybersecurity, Microsoft 365 expertise, business internet, VoIP or simply some straightforward advice, we're here to help.

Below are answers to some of the questions we're commonly asked.

General & IT Support

What does Sigma IT do?

Sigma IT provides a wide range of business technology services, including managed IT support, Microsoft 365 and cloud services, cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery, networking and Wi-Fi, business internet, VoIP communications and IT procurement.

We can act as your outsourced IT department, work alongside your existing IT team, or provide individual technology services and project expertise where required.

Our focus is simple: keeping your technology secure, reliable and working for your organisation.

What are Managed IT Services?

Managed IT means taking a proactive approach to looking after your technology rather than simply waiting for something to go wrong.

Sigma IT can monitor, maintain and support your IT environment on an ongoing basis, helping identify potential issues before they become disruptive.

For many organisations, this provides the benefits of an experienced IT team without the cost and complexity of maintaining all of that capability internally.

Can Sigma IT become our outsourced IT department?

Absolutely.

This is how many organisations work with us.

We can manage your everyday IT requirements, support your staff, maintain your systems, monitor your network, manage cybersecurity, look after Microsoft 365 and coordinate your technology suppliers.

The objective is to give your organisation a knowledgeable and responsive technology partner, with a single point of contact for IT.

Can Sigma IT work alongside our existing IT team?

Yes.

You don't need to outsource your entire IT environment to work with Sigma IT.

For organisations with internal IT resources, we can provide additional expertise, capacity or specific services where required. This might include networking, Microsoft cloud services, cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery, internet connectivity, VoIP, procurement or project work.

We can work collaboratively with your existing team while remaining focused on the areas where you need our assistance.

What size organisations does Sigma IT support?

Sigma IT supports organisations of varying sizes, from small businesses requiring a complete outsourced IT solution through to larger organisations that need additional expertise, specialist services or support for particular areas of their technology environment.

Our services are flexible and can scale according to your requirements.

It's less about the size of your organisation and more about understanding what you need from your technology partner.

Do you only support businesses in Auckland?

No.

While Sigma IT is based in Auckland, we support organisations throughout New Zealand.

Many IT issues can be diagnosed and resolved remotely, allowing our team to provide fast and efficient support regardless of where your staff are located.

Where onsite assistance is required, we'll discuss the best support option with you.

Can Sigma IT support businesses with multiple offices or remote staff?

Yes.

Modern organisations often have people working across different offices, from home and remotely throughout New Zealand or overseas.

Sigma IT can help manage the technology that makes this possible, including Microsoft 365, cloud services, identity and device management, cybersecurity, secure networking, business internet and communications.

Our aim is to provide users with a consistent and secure IT experience regardless of where they're working.

Do you provide one-off IT support and project work?

Yes.

While many clients use Sigma IT as their ongoing technology partner, we're also happy to discuss individual projects, upgrades, migrations and other IT requirements.

If you're unsure what you need, talk to us and we'll help determine the best approach.

Can you take over from our existing IT provider?

Yes.

Changing IT providers doesn't need to be difficult.

Sigma IT can work with your existing provider to coordinate the transfer of documentation, administration access, Microsoft 365, domains, licensing, backups and other services.

Our priority is making the transition as smooth as possible while minimising disruption to your organisation and its users.

How much does Managed IT Support cost?

Every organisation is different, so the cost depends on factors such as the number of users and devices, services required and the complexity of your IT environment.

Where appropriate, Sigma IT can provide managed services for a predictable monthly cost, making IT expenditure easier to understand and budget for.

We recommend starting with a conversation about your requirements.

Do you offer a free IT assessment?

Yes.

Sigma IT offers a free initial IT assessment to help businesses better understand their existing technology environment.

We can discuss your current systems, identify potential risks or areas for improvement and help you understand what your next steps might look like.

There's no obligation to become a managed client simply because you've spoken with us.

Microsoft 365 & Cloud

Can you manage our Microsoft 365 environment?

Yes.

Sigma IT can help manage and optimise Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and the wider Microsoft cloud environment.

We can also help organisations improve security, collaboration and productivity by making better use of the Microsoft services they're already paying for.

Can you help us move our files and systems to the cloud?

Yes.

Cloud migration can range from moving company documents into SharePoint and OneDrive through to migrating servers and business applications into Microsoft Azure.

We don't believe every organisation should automatically move everything to the cloud.

We'll look at how your organisation operates and recommend a cloud, onsite or hybrid solution that makes sense for your requirements.

Can you help with Multi-Factor Authentication and Microsoft security?

Yes.

Multi-Factor Authentication, or MFA, is one of the most effective ways of improving account security.

Sigma IT can help configure Microsoft Entra ID, MFA, access policies and other Microsoft security technologies to provide stronger protection for your users, devices and business information.

Can you manage our staff computers and devices?

Yes.

Using modern management platforms such as Microsoft Intune, we can help organisations centrally manage computers and other supported devices.

This can make it easier to apply security policies, deploy applications, configure new computers and maintain consistent standards across your organisation — particularly where employees work from different locations.

Can you help when a new employee starts or someone leaves?

Yes.

Staff onboarding and offboarding are important parts of both IT management and cybersecurity.

Sigma IT can assist with creating or disabling accounts, Microsoft 365 licensing, email, computer setup, application access, permissions and other technology requirements associated with employees joining or leaving your organisation.

Having a consistent process also helps ensure former employees don't retain access to business systems or information.

Cybersecurity, Backup & Disaster Recovery

Can Sigma IT help protect our business from cyberattacks?

Yes.

Cybersecurity is a fundamental part of modern IT management.

Sigma IT takes a layered approach to security that can include endpoint protection, Multi-Factor Authentication, Microsoft security technologies, email protection, secure network infrastructure, backup and disaster recovery, device management and ongoing monitoring.

There's no single product that makes an organisation completely secure, which is why we focus on reducing risk across the entire technology environment.

Isn't antivirus enough to protect our computers?

Not anymore.

Modern cyber threats include ransomware, phishing, malicious websites, compromised accounts and attacks specifically designed to bypass traditional antivirus software.

Endpoint protection remains important, but it should form part of a wider cybersecurity strategy.

Sigma IT can review your existing security and recommend practical improvements appropriate for your organisation and its level of risk.

Is Microsoft 365 automatically backed up?

Microsoft provides an extremely resilient cloud platform, but service availability isn't the same as having an independent backup of your business data.

Accidental deletion, compromised accounts, ransomware and human error can still result in data loss.

Sigma IT can provide dedicated Microsoft 365 backup solutions covering services such as Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint and Microsoft Teams, giving organisations an additional layer of protection and recovery.

Can you help us improve our backup and disaster recovery?

Yes.

A good backup strategy isn't simply about copying files — it's about being able to recover your organisation when something goes wrong.

Sigma IT can help protect Microsoft 365, cloud systems, servers and other important business information while developing practical backup, disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.

The goal is to understand how your organisation would recover before you actually need to.

Internet, Networks & Communications

Do you provide business internet connections?

Yes.

Sigma IT provides business-grade internet services for organisations throughout New Zealand, with a range of connection options depending on your location and requirements.

We can provide fixed IP addresses where required and help determine the appropriate connection for your organisation, taking into account factors such as performance, reliability, cloud services, remote access, VoIP and other business-critical applications.

Because we can manage both your IT environment and your internet connection, you also have one team to contact when something isn't working as expected.

Do you provide internet services for residential customers?

Yes, where a business-grade service is appropriate.

While Sigma IT is primarily a business technology provider, we can also provide internet connections to residential customers who have more demanding connectivity requirements.

This can be particularly useful for people working extensively from home, running a business from home, or where requirements such as fixed IP addressing, reliability or business-grade support make a standard residential internet service less suitable.

Talk to us about what you need and we'll help determine whether a Sigma IT connection is right for you.

Do you provide VoIP and business calling plans?

Yes.

Sigma IT provides VoIP calling plans and modern business phone solutions, including 3CX.

We can help with phone numbers, calling plans, extensions, call routing and other business telephony requirements, as well as integrating your communications with your wider IT and internet environment.

Whether you're replacing a traditional phone system, setting up a new office or supporting staff across multiple locations, we can design a solution around the way your organisation communicates.

Can you help with our office Wi-Fi and network?

Yes.

Reliable networking is the foundation of almost everything a modern organisation does.

Sigma IT can design, install, monitor and optimise business networks, including Wi-Fi, switching, firewalls and secure remote connectivity.

We can also investigate poor coverage, unreliable connections and performance issues within existing networks.

Computers, Equipment & Procurement

Do you supply business computers and IT equipment?

Yes.

Sigma IT can source business-grade computers, workstations, servers, networking equipment and other technology from leading manufacturers and distributors.

We'll help you choose equipment based on what your staff actually need rather than simply selecting a computer based on price or specifications.

We can also configure equipment before deployment so it's ready for your staff to use.

Can you help us plan technology upgrades?

Yes.

Whether you're replacing a few computers, refreshing an entire fleet, upgrading network infrastructure or planning a larger technology project, Sigma IT can help you assess the options and develop a practical upgrade path.

Where possible, we also look at the technology you already have to determine what can continue to be used effectively.

Working With Sigma IT

We already have IT systems in place. Can you review them?

Definitely.

You don't need to be experiencing an IT problem before talking to us.

Sigma IT can review your existing environment and help identify opportunities to improve reliability, cybersecurity, backup, performance and productivity.

In many cases, the best solution isn't replacing everything. It's making better use of what you already have.

Can Sigma IT provide several of our technology services together?

Yes — and there can be significant advantages in doing so.

Sigma IT can bring together managed IT support, Microsoft 365, cybersecurity, backup, networking, business internet, VoIP and technology procurement under one technology partner.

This doesn't mean you need to purchase everything from us. However, where services are interconnected, having one team with visibility across the environment can make management and troubleshooting considerably simpler.

Instead of being caught between your IT company, internet provider, phone provider and other technology suppliers, you have one team that can help coordinate the solution.

Will you recommend technology we don't really need?

No.

Our approach is to understand your organisation first and recommend technology that solves a genuine requirement.

Sometimes that means implementing something new. Sometimes it means improving an existing system. And sometimes the right advice is that you don't need to change anything yet.

Technology should fit the organisation — not the other way around.

What happens when we need IT support?

Managed clients can contact the Sigma IT support team whenever they need assistance.

Many issues can be resolved remotely, allowing our team to diagnose and fix problems quickly. Where an issue requires onsite assistance, we'll arrange that as appropriate.

Our aim is to make getting help straightforward so your staff can get back to work as quickly as possible.

Why should we choose Sigma IT?

We believe a good technology partner should do more than simply fix computers when something goes wrong.

Sigma IT combines many years of technology experience with a proactive, security-focused approach to business IT.

Our capabilities extend across managed IT, Microsoft cloud services, cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery, networking, internet connectivity, VoIP communications and technology procurement.

We take the time to understand how your organisation works, provide straightforward advice and build solutions around your actual requirements.

Most importantly, we aim to build long-term relationships with our clients and become a trusted extension of their organisation.

Still have a question?

Every organisation is different, and sometimes the easiest way to get an answer is simply to talk to us.

Whether you're looking for a new IT provider, need additional expertise for your existing IT team, are planning an upgrade, concerned about cybersecurity, looking for better internet or communications, or simply want an independent opinion about your current technology environment, we'd be happy to have a conversation.
